It is a shame that Lil Wayne actually has a successful music career. I could see him as a circus clown, a janitor…perhaps even a jewelry salesman, but as a musician he fails to inspire. Apparently delivering trite lyrics over tired club beats is all it takes to be a “star”. I suppose that is not a new revelation about today’s music industry, but in Lil Wayne’s case he has done something especially annoying.
Chuck Berry may have spawned “Rock-n-Roll”, and Nirvana may have spawned “Grunge”, but Lil Wayne has definitely started “Frequent Laborious Overuse of Auto-Tuning (and Talk box)”. This is a long title for a new genre of music so I’m going to go with the acronym, FLOAT.
Ever since Lil Wayne bought his first auto-tuner FLOAT has been growing in popularity. Turn on any radio that claims to play “Hip-hop and R&B” and you are destined to hear some FLOAT within the first couple of songs. I think the amount of talent needed to create a good FLOAT song is about the same as your purchasing power for the latest FLOAT software (actually musicianship is not a requirement).
As much as I would like to see Lil Wayne retire and begin a successful career as a circus clown, I think if he became a Web Designer it might sound something like this:
Props to Casey D from Vimeo.com for creating a truly hilarious 2:08 seconds.
